MFA covers HOW to make friends as an adult:

To have deep, fulfilling friendships, we need to focus on 3 things (which is what we’ll cover in the course).

  1. Mindset. This is what’s going on inside your head that can help or hinder your efforts to connect. It’s common for women to have negative thoughts, insecurities, and anxieties that can undermine our desire to make friends. For example,

    • “What if they don’t like me?”

    • “Maybe they’re not interested in being friends.”

    • “I’m probably going to say or do something stupid.”

This course gives concrete strategies for handling negative thoughts and anxieties.

  2. Skills. Making friends isn’t some magical or mysterious process. It’s a clearly defined skill (well, a set of skills) that has been identified through research. Like all skills, “friending” can be learned, developed, and perfected with practice.

  3. Opportunity. Even with the right mindset and amazing social skills, it can still be hard to make friends as an adult without the kinds of opportunities that facilitate meaningful interactions and friendships. This course will cover exactly what to look for so you can find places, spaces, and activities that facilitate friendship.

In the Making Friends as an Adult course you can expect to:

  • Strengthen your connection skills. You’ll learn what the science says really works to create connection, so you’ll know where to focus your efforts. Then you’ll have the chance to practice specific skills in bi-weekly guided small-group “Convo Cafes.”

  • Develop deeper, more rewarding friendships, and have FUN in the process. You’ll be led through a step-by-step process, starting with a self-assessment of how you’re feeling about your current relationships, followed by developing a “friendship plan” with manageable action steps to deepen existing relationships and/or make new ones. While the focus is on making friends IRL, you’re likely to make connections with other course participants.

  • Have live group coaching with me. I (Jessica Gifford, ProjectConnect Founder) will be with you each week to create a safe, inclusive space, provide instruction, and coach you through obstacles. The first and third weeks of each month will be group coaching, and the second and fourth weeks of each month will be “Convo Cafes” to practice connection skills, and have deep, engaging conversations.

3 Steps to building connection.

1

Identify Facilitators!

Identify who will facilitate ProjectConnect groups. Facilitators can employees or college/graduate students. Designate a point person (or two) to oversee the program.

2

Get Certified!

Host a training specifically for your organization/group. Or, attend a virtual Facilitator Certification Training (offered every January and August.) Once certified, facilitators can lead groups year after year.

3

Create Connection!

Schedule groups, enroll participants, and launch! Participants get to know each other and develop stronger relationships over the course of 6 sessions. Repeat step 3 indefinitely.
